Step one of my master plan - which was illustrated in an earlier post today - is nearing implementation. According to a report in the Boston Globe this evening, the Red Sox optioned Justin Masterson to Pawtucket so he can get "acclimated to the bullpen," as Terry Francona was quoted.
The Red Sox recalled outfielder Jeff Bailey, who will likely return to Pawtucket when Clay Buchholz is summoned to make the start Friday against Baltimore. Masterson will probably return to the Red Sox after the All-Star break and hopefully stabilize the shaky pen.
Today is already looking better. First, the Rays finally lose, and now the good news about Buchholz and Masterson. Now, if only the bullpen can hold the Twins scoreless and this offense can get some timely hits. Dare to dream.
